Eloise Aitken

I am a Graphic Designer currently working as an artworker in the fashion industry. I am interested in community facing solutions achieved through progressive problem solving. I am fascinated with the theory surrounding type design and unique print practices.

My process often surrounds lo-fi and tactile methods of image treatment and finish -  I am hugely inspired by radical print design of the 60s and 70s and often try and emulate the physicality in my work.

London College of Fashion Archives
Print & Exhibition design

I designed a collection of assets for the LCF archive in collaboration with its curators to advertise its’ facilities and exhibitions.

The brief was for a bold and succinct design that was coherent between elements and emphasised the extensive, storytelling aspect of the archives. The exhibition templates also needed to be dynamic to work as evergreen artworks for future shows.

Radical Film Network Conference, Madrid

The Radical Film Nework hosts a conference annually and I was briefed to design the identity for this years’ conference held in Madrid. This included printed matter such as large scale posters and programmes as well as a digital timetable.

The client had a clear vision for the aesthetic of the conference which I refined into an indentity that would look as strong physically as it did digitally. I was also keen to implement an aspect of lo-fi physicality to the project to pay homage to its grassroots nature.

Remaining Illegible, An anthology

“Labouring to Remain Illegible” is a collative research publication about ‘low resolution’ art and design and the future of post-digital creativity. It includes my own research which advocates for lo-fi design and higlights the social implications it had throughout history. 

This book was self published on G.F Smith Gmund paper & Hemp blocker, 100gsm. Whilst most of it is printed single/duo colour on a Xerox inkjet - chapter breaks
are risographed.

Madruga Festival, zine & print

I was briefed with designing a newspaper/zine for the third edition of Madruga, an independant music festival in Wales. They wanted a lo-fi, satirical, cheesy feel to the zine which was achieved through the one colour print. I also designed other assets for the festival such as set times and posters advertising activities.

I wanted to reflect the grassroots ethos of the festival with friendly, unstructured approach to the design.

Alongside the zines, I designed some risographed poster inserts of the year’s lineup as a keepsake for the artists performing as well as the attendees.
